On Saturday, July 28, members of the Pushmataha County Sportsman Club held a bass tournament on Hugo Lake. Anglers had to deal with low water levels in the lake as well as extreme heat. Temperatures soared to over one hundred degrees. These conditions made catching keeper bass a challenge for some although a few anglers were able to catch a limit.
Terry Thurman was the first place winner with his six fish limit that weighed 15.48 pounds. Terry also had the big bass of the tournament with a fish weighing 3.57 pounds. Billy Hensley finished in second place with a six fish limit that weighed 12.45 pounds. The third place winner was Billy Latham, also with a six fish limit that weighed 11.50 pounds.
The club’s next tournament will be the annual noon to noon bass tournament. This endurance event will be held on August 4th and 5th at McGee Creek Lake. The tournament will begin at noon on Saturday and will end at noon on Sunday. A weigh-in will be held on Saturday night. After weigh-in, members may return to the lake and continue fishing, provided they did not weigh in a limit for that day, or go home and return at their leisure to finish the tournament. If a contestant weighs in six fish at the Saturday night weigh-in, they can not return to the lake until after midnight. The final weigh-in will be held at noon on Sunday. Both stringer weights will be added together to determine the contestants final weight for the tournament.View more articles in:
