Gary Lee Thompson was born June 12, 1941 in Marion, IN., to Robert M. and Geneva J. (Samples) Thompson. He passed from this life August 16, 2012 at home in Snow at the age of 71. Gary raised and traded cattle, trained horses, but his passion was calf roping. He served proudly in the United States Marine Corps. Gary later married Shirley Armstrong November 10, 2004 in DeQueen, AR. Gary was preceded in death by his parents: Robert M. Thompson and Geneva J. Samples Thompson; grandparents: Albert and Nora Thompson, Joseph and Elsey Samples; sister: Marlene Wilcock; brother: Stephen Thompson; son: Gary Lee Thompson Jr. He is survived by his wife Shirley Thompson; daughters: Nancy Smith and husband Aaron of Marion, IN., Kathy Willison and husband Kent of Marion, IN., Jodi Brown of Durant; son: Jayme Brown of Durant; brothers: Ned Clark of Marion, IN., Robert J. Thompson of Marion, IN., and Johnny Thompson of Marion, IN.; grandchildren: Richey Sisson, Courtney Sisson and Hannah Smith from Marion, IN., Trey Cookston and Jessie Cookston from Sherman, TX.; as well as many other relatives and friends. Graveside Services were held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 20, 2012 at the Finley Cemetery with Donald Wayman officiating. Music included: “It Is Well With My Soul”, “Amazing Grace”, and a Special Song by Donald Wayman. Pallbearers were: Steve Wayman, Pat Wayman, Steve Tucker, Carl Carter, Kent Carter and Steve Painter.
