Honobia featured on TV show
Bigfoot fans were devastated when they heard that the 2012 Honobia Bigfoot festival canceled last fall but enthusiasts can get a quick dose to tide them over until this fall.
The Oklahoma Department of Tourism and Recreation has the answer. “AAA’s Discover Oklahoma” has went on the hunt for bigfoot in no where else but Honobia. Executive producer, Shel Wagner was taken his viewers on hundreds of thousands of protected wildlife acres in the Kiamichi Mountains. Publicity for the segment also nods to the Honobia Store and Cafe, where a local favorite is both a hamburger and a ham and swiss.
The 2012 Bigfoot Conference and Festival, featuring speakers, arts, crafts and other venders, was canceled when the rains last fall made the grounds questionable and they were unable to secure a backup sight.
In the episode Shel hunts for Bigfoot in Honobia and stops in Honobia Creek Store and Cafe! The original episode aired on January 18th (episode #929) but can still be viewed at www.discoveroklahomatv.com .
Another bigfoot blowout is scheduled to take place this spring, according to www.HonobiaBigFootPRINT.com . The event is being rescheduled for Spring, April 19 & 20 to be specific. It will be called “Lookin’ Late Honobia Big Foot Conference & Festival 2012”. Next year’s gathering for the October time frame is also currently in the planning stages.
“This phenomenon is not something you can do in your spare time,” said Mary Lee Williams, Editor of the Honobia Big Foot PRINT. “Planning, promoting and the logistics of something of this magnitude is a full time commitment”.
Many of the Vendors who had rented a spot to sell their arts and crafts understood the situation and simply said “Can I apply what I’ve already paid to the re-scheduled event?” The answer is yes. It is believed by many that this event leaves too big a print in Southeast Oklahoma to be stopped by a few setbacks.
