The North and South team split the basketball games during Eastern Oklahoma State College’s 41st annual Kiamichi All-Star Classic on May26 in Wilburton.
The South girls’ basketball team pulled off a close 69-67 victory over the North team in the first game of the night. Miranda Schaefer of Wright City was named the South MVP for her 16 points and Katie Smith of Checotah was named the North MVP for her 15 points.
Top scorers for the South team included Kelbie Moon of Wilburton with 11 points, Darian Bradford of Colbert with 9 points and Chelsi Thomas of Antlers with 8 points. Other top scorers for the North team included Alyssa Banks of Eufaula with 14 points, and LaNaessa Grayson of Oktaha and Colleen Peterson of Poteau with 9 points each. The South girls’ team was coached by Chris Gibbs and Dana House of Rattan and the North team was coached by Scott Gregory of Poteau.
The boys’ basketball game was also close with an 87-83 North victory. Cody Robinson of Moss scored 21 points was named the North MVP. Nick Brown of Hugo led the South team with 23 points was named the South MVP.
Other top scorers for the North team included Seth Youngblood and Brooks Robinson of Roland with 16 points each and Nate Hamilton of Muldrow with 14 points. Top scorers for the South team included Chandler Rickey of Broken Bow with 13 points and Clark Austin of Talihina, Austin Beene of Achille and Tyler Gibson of Wister with seven points each. The North boys’ team was coached by Ed Lewis of Roland and the South boys’ team was coached by Chris Brown of Rattan.
The softball and baseball games for the Kiamichi All-Star Classic had to be postponed because of heavy rain in the area. A make-up date for the softball and baseball games has been set for Saturday, June 1. The softball game will start at 2 p.m., followed by the baseball game at 4 p.m.
