Well, I hope you all liked the Welcome Home Veterans' parade. I was hoping for more participation but found out we need to use more current ways of advertising it. Those include putting more on the VFW Post 3658 Website and Facebook page. So I will be sending my Webmaster (Rocky) these columns too.
So I want to thank the following for their support:
FirstBank (Steve Burrage, Mark Day, and staff), Amerristate Bank, Little Dixie Transit (Judy did you get the photo?), Margaret Wells and the Red Barn Mini Mall, George Pigg and the Antlers Auto Sales and staff (see George I kept your card and thanks for the vehicles but how are you going to get that Jeep off the back of that five ton). Charley Carter - Commander, Jerry Fain - Quarter Master, Bill Clements - Chaplin, Rocky Woolman - Service Officer and Parade Master. My co-parade master Butch Morris - First Year Trustee and his Spouse Denise (if you loved the cake call her), John W. Aquirre - Second Year Trustee, Feliciano Isidro Jr. Vice Commander, Moreno Enrique (the former Adjutant who does not want his job back but loves to read these articles), William (Will) Edds, who volunteered to drive a 5 ton military tactical if needed but marched up the hill. And Jerry Wilson and his Mini-beep which he drove up the hill (carrying the Commander, Quarter Master, and District Four Commander) of VFW Post 3658. District Four Commander - Jack Accountius (whose parade in Durant is today). Joel Taylor and the City of Antlers Staff, Antlers Fire Department (Gee I thought we had everything in place Randy), Chief of Police of Antlers Mr. Morgan (nice to finally meet you) and his staff, and Darwin Volunteer Fire Department (who has their Thanksgiving Day meeting today - More feed for this person). Pushmataha Sherriff Department Staff (we actually got two vehicles) and the Historical Society (I hope you all got more Veterans for the historical files, I will send mine to Vern [unless he kept a copy of my first column]).
A Special thanks to Tracy who put the Veterans Parade on the Front page of this newspaper, the website and her Facebook page (funny how many people do not read the printed paper), The Examiner - John M. Brewer Publisher, and the Clayton News. Also Barry Diamond and the K955.5 Crew and Jocks for announcing the parade.
Well my Love of my Life - Melba Rose Kinsler - Did not march up the hill with her cane but got a ride on the Pushmataha Chamber's Trailer. Butch Lewis and his BAACA group consisting of Norma Lewis, Stacie Brown and four children and John Brown (you know if you do not sign in I have a challenge remembering who was there) and others. Also there and signed our book was (If I get the names wrong I am trying to read your print, sorry) Donald E. Collins, Michael Bray (a new member of the VFW), Hap Nelson, Robert Garmen, Melvin L. Wells, Danny Medina, John D. Underwood, Steve Billy (a USMC Veteran), Ron Morris, Jerry Bone, Dewayne Pebworth, Derk Car, James and Jamee Armstrong with Four Children, Clara Battice, Debbie Taylor, Kaitlin Taylor, Katie Berry, and Grover McBride. John Hilderbrand came as did a World War II Veteran from the Hugo VFW (Funny I did not see any more members come up here). We also had a Commander from another VFW Post (who will be transferring) who had his own tri-motorcycle.
So Thank You the City Of Antlers for Welcoming Us
