Rattan beats Roff for state title

The Rattan Rams took home their second consecutive spring state title despite a month layover. Last Tuesday, Wright City was reinstated and the tournament resumed the following Thursday.

Their state tournament journey began more than a month ago with a 15-5 quarterfinal run rule of Thomas-Fay-Custer. Hours after the contest the tournament was suspended.

The Rams didn’t waste any time in extras putting two runs across in the top of the eighth and finishing off the Tigers in the bottom half of the inning with the 5-3 final.

Annual Husband-wife Bass Tournament Postponed

On Saturday morning, June 1, couples arrived at the Potapo boat ramp on McGee Creek Lake to participate in the Annual Husband-wife Bass Tournament. However, after discussing current weather conditions and a forecast calling for heavy rain and possibly severe thunderstorms during the first half of the day, members voted to postpone the tournament and fish fry that was scheduled after the tournament until Saturday, June 22. Fishing times will remain the same from 7:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. with a shore side fish fry to follow immediately after the weigh-in.

Rattan Archery Team competes at National level

The Oklahoma National Archery in the Schools Program (OKNASP) is sponsored by the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife. There are over 369 schools that participate statewide. The curriculum must be taught during the school day by a certified archery instructor.

Regionals are held in February and broke up into 6 regions. Southeast Oklahoma is Region 5 and the Regional Shoot is held at the Expo Center in McAlester.

North & South split basketball games during Kiamichi All-Star Classic

The North and South team split the basketball games during Eastern Oklahoma State College’s 41st annual Kiamichi All-Star Classic on May26 in Wilburton.

The South girls’ basketball team pulled off a close 69-67 victory over the North team in the first game of the night. Miranda Schaefer of Wright City was named the South MVP for her 16 points and Katie Smith of Checotah was named the North MVP for her 15 points.
