Driver pinned for 30 minutes

Krasshonda N. Bray was transported to the Plano Medical Center in Plano, TX., after her vehicle ran off the road on a county road south of Rattan.

Bray’s condition is unknown but she was transported due to head and internal trunk injuries. Bray is a 24 year old female from Valliant. There were no passengers at the time of the collision.

Antlers Little League Bearcats Triumph over Hugo Buffaloes

It was a great day to be a Bearcat.

Following an inspiring pep rally Thursday afternoon at Antlers Elementary, the Antlers Little League Bearcats found themselves pumped up and ready for Saturday morning football. They faced off against the Hugo Buffaloes at Antlers field in a scrimmage against their long time rivals. The 3rd & 4th Grade and 5th & 6th grade teams respectively paired up to battle their opposing teams. It was an event that did not disappoint fans.

Bearcats fall to Diggers

The Antlers Bearcats traveled to Wilburton to face the Diggers last Friday night. Although the Bearcats played hard through all four quarters, they fell to the Diggers in the end. The final score was Wilburton 40 - Antlers 18.

Youth deer gun season offers young hunters first shot

Youth hunters have the first chance at a deer with a rifle during the youth deer gun season slated for Oct. 19-21.

The youth season is open to hunters under 18 years of age who are accompanied in the field by an adult who is at least 18 years old or older. The adult is permitted to archery hunt while accompanying the youth, but they may not hunt with a firearm.

Man arrested for assault on a minor

An arrest warrant was issued for an Antlers man after striking a man in the face at the FirstBank ATM in Antlers.

Officers responded to a call from Michael Staples who informed them he was at the FirstBank ATM in Antlers when his foot slipped off the break causing him to slowly roll forward and he hit the vehicle in front of him.

Cooler weather leads hunters to break laws

With hunting seasons underway, and the hot summer temperatures giving way to fall like conditions, many hunters in the area have been itching to hit the woods and do some much anticipated camping and hunting.

However, when it is time to hunt, it is also time to have all your permits and licenses in order and to hunt safely and legally.

Mark W. Webb, of Nashoba, was recently ticketed by the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife for taking a coon in a closed season and spotlighting around the Honubia area. He will face the courts on October 31, 2012 in an initial appearance at 10:00 a.m.

Hunter education now available online

Obtaining an Oklahoma hunter education card is now just a few clicks away for most of the state's prospective hunters.

The Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation is now offering the complete hunter education course online. The successful cyber-student will be able to print an Oklahoma hunter education card after completing the free course.

Geologic Mapping Day - Oct. 19

Friday, October 19, is proclaimed “Geologic Mapping Day” in Oklahoma by decree of Governor Mary Fallin. The proclamation outlines the various functions of geologic maps that include city planning, geologic hazard evaluation, oil and gas exploration, non-fuel and building material location, recreation areas, hunting and fishing plans, and much other needed information.

PushFest canceled due to lack of ticket sales

The first annual PushFest, music festival, has been canceled. The event was supposed to take place this weekend in the Nashoba area but due to a lack of ticket sales for the event, the founders decided to cancel.

The newspaper received this message from the foundation.

"Message from Paul and Susan LaVictoire:

'It is with a heavy heart that we are forced to announce the cancellation of Pushmataha Music Festival 2012. Unfortunately, ticket sales just aren't where they needed to be.

Hospital board holds special meeting

The Pushmataha Hospital board held a special meeting on Friday at 1:00 pm. Since the resignation of administrator Mark Rodgers, there has been a lot of speculation concerning the state of the hospital. The board met to address some concerns about the hospital’s future and to begin plans for the future of the hospital. The meeting began with acceptance of the minutes from the prior meeting and the acceptance of the resignation of board member Bruce Lawless. Janine Stadifer was appointed by the county commissioners to fill the vacancy and sworn in by County Clerk Jane Dunlap.
