Annual Tea presented by Twentieth Century Club

Members of the Antlers Twentieth Century Club, OK Chapter of the GFWC, met on Apr. 11, 2012, at 1:00 p.m., in the home of Roberta Burrage to have the annual Antlers High School Senior Girls Tea. All members participated by bringing finger foods. Tea and punch were served.

There were 28 beautiful girls in attendance. The girls were welcomed by Roberta and given a short history of the GFWC Club. Refreshments were served and the girls sat at tables provided on the patio by the pool area.

4-H members attend Science Lock-In

The Pushmataha County 4-Her’s recently attended the S.E. District 4-H Science Museum Lock in Oklahoma City. The theme for this year’s lock in was: Pirates without the Caribbean. There were around 50 members that attend.

Big Bass Rodeo

April 19, 2012

If you enjoy bass fishing, winning cash, prizes and trophies, then you might want to enter in this year’s Big Bass Rodeo. The Pushmataha County Sportsman Club will host the 41st Annual Big Bass Rodeo on April 21-22 at Pine Creek Lake. This is the oldest, continuous running big bass tournament in the state and quite possibly the nation. This is the club’s only fund raising event.

Players recognized at AHS Basketball Banquet

Last Saturday night, coaches, players, parents, and friends gathered to celebrate this 2011/2012 Basketball season. The LadyCats finished their season with a 2nd place trophy from the Talihina Tournament, a Championship Trophy from the Tushka Tournament, Championship trophy from our Antlers Festival, and a District Championship Trophy.

Our Bearcats walked away from this season with a 2nd place trophy from the Tushka Tournament, and Championships of Antlers Festival. Awards received at this year's banquet included:

Jack Hedrick

April 12, 2012

Jack Hedrick was born on April 18, 1920 to Wade and Ville (Janway) Hedrick of Antlers. He passed from this life on April 5, 2012 in Tulsa at the age of 91. Jack served in the U.S. Army during World War II and obtained the rank of Tec 5. He was a retired rancher and surveyor from the State of Oklahoma. He married Janice Satterfield-Owens on March 6, 1993 in Antlers. Jack loved traveling, gardening, ranching, fishing, gospel singing, and - most importantly – spending time with family and friends. He was a lifelong resident of Antlers.

Board of Education Approves A-F School Grading System

On Thursday, March 29, 2012, the Oklahoma State Board of Education approved permanent administrative rules for a new A-F School Grading System that designates easy-to-understand letter grades to schools based on academic performance.

Expo draws large crowd

April 12, 2012

The 2012 Southeast Oklahoma Yard and Garden Expo took place in the Joe Decker building, located at the Pushmataha County Fair Grounds in Antlers, on March 30 and 31, 2012. With the increasingly warm spring weather the area has experienced, gardening and outdoor enthusiasts made their way to the Expo to see what new products and plants awaited them for spring and summer.

Antlers 4th & 5th raises $1,273 for St. Jude’s

These fourth and fifth graders that attend Antlers Public Schools have collected a total of $1,273.00 for St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital by participating in the St. Jude's Mathathon.
