Elk Season Closes in Two Zones

October 10, 2014

   Elk season is now closed in two of Oklahoma's seven private-lands hunting zones. As of Monday, hunters in the Southeast Zone had harvested the season quota of five elk, and hunters in the Special Northwest Zone had harvested the season quota of two elk. Elk archery season remains open on private lands in the other five zones; Northeast, Northwest, Panhandle, Southwest and Special Southwest zones.

Antlers Pounds Pocola

Fired up and ready to go, the Antlers Bearcats were at Pocola Friday, October 3, for their second district game of the year. Coming off a disappointing loss to Panama, the team was ready to prove their mettle. Pocola was celebrating their homecoming and the game ball was delivered via helicopter.

Same-sex marriage NOW LEGAL in OK

On Monday, The Supreme Court turned away seven same-sex marriage cases in five states, including Oklahoma. And now, the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals has lifted its stay on gay marriage in Oklahoma, meaning that same-sex marriage is now legal in the state. 
The Supreme Court refused, for now, to take up the basic question of whether same-sex couples have a right to marriage.

Hunting season is NOW OPEN

Archery Hunting Seasons Open Oct. 1 for Deer, Elk, Bear, Antelope, Turkey

October 1 is opening day for several major archery hunting seasons in Oklahoma. And prospects are looking good for most of those seasons, experts with the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation said.

Razorbacks beat Bearcats

In their first district game of the season, the Bearcats played host to the Panama Razorbacks, September 26. Panama dominated the first quarter, making 6 first downs and scoring with 2:14 left. They continued to control the ball in the second quarter, with another 6 first downs, scoring again at the 4:49 mark. With the 2point conversion good, the game stood at 0 to 14, Razorbacks when the halftime buzzer rang.

Bond reduction denied in Cole case

The bond reduction for an Antlers man who was charged with first degree murder was denied yesterday.

Henry "J.C" Cole is accused of killing his nephew last April. The 69-year-old man called 911 on April 15, 2013, to report that he had found his nephew's body on his property.

The medical examiner ruled Gene Cole's death a homicide caused by a shotgun wound to the neck.

Officials say they found two shotguns at Henry Cole's home and determined one was used to kill Gene Cole.

Cole's arrangement is set for Today.
