Tax up for renewal in Special Election

On February 10, 2015, an Annual School Board Election, along with a Special Election will be held.
This will give residents, who are registered voters, the chance to select School Board members for Clayton Public School and Antlers Public School, along with voting on whether or not to renew an existing 1 cent sales tax that is distributed among county programs and offices.
The sales tax of 1 cent, that is up for renewal, has been in place since April of 1991. This tax is distributed by percentage to county operations and programs in the community.

Assessor's Office and 21 others fail audit

The Pushmataha County Assessor's Office, along with 21 other counties, failed an audit of fiscal year 2013-2014 due to not using specific computer programing.
The failure was due to the officers not using the Computer Assisted Math Appraisal System as required by Oklahoma State law.

Petition against CEC now void

The petition filed by the members of Choctaw Electric Cooperative to oust the company's nine-member Board of Trustees has now become void following the resignation of all nine members.
The petition, which was filed on Dec. 12, with just over 2,300 validated signatures, required the Co-op to hold a special election of new trustees within 45 days. But that special election will no longer be happening.
"There are no longer any [trustees] named on the petition sitting on the board, therefor there's no reason to have a special meeting," Interim CEO and General Manager Joe Harris said.

Tensions high over Sheriff’s Office budget

During the County Commissioner meeting held on Monday, January 5, 2014, agenda numbers were skipped to accommodate the overflowing crowd present to hear the plans that Sheriff Duncan had made to be able to run his department until the end of the fiscal year.
The first item the board addressed was signing off on an overlay project, planned to start after April 2015, for Cloudy Road. This overlay would cover approximately 7.8 miles, starting at the Cloudy turnoff in Rattan.

If you have problems with wildlife causing damage to your property or even getting in your trash, you are in luck. Kiamichi Trapping and Wildlife Control Service is now open for business.
Animal damage is becoming a problem in many cities and towns because most have a no discharging of firearms within the city limits law. Because of this, wildlife have free range to cause all kinds of damage to people’s property. The problem animals range from raccoons, opossums, squirrels, foxes, skunks, and armadillos, just to name a few.
