White places at State Lifing Compatition

Charles White, 7th grader at O’buch Middle School took home 3rd place in his weight division, 198 lbs at the Junior High School State Weight Lifting competition on Thursday, March 1, 2012. Congratulations on a job well done!

Davis places at State Lifting Compatition

Ryan Davis, 8th grader at O’buch Middle School, took home 2nd place in the 165 lbs weight class at the Junior High School State Weight Lifting competition on Thursday, March 1, 2012. Way to go on a job well done Ryan!

AHS is Lifting their way to State

The Antlers High School Weightlifting team competed at the Regional competition this last week, March 2nd, and two of the young men qualified for state. Caleb Stephens(on left) a Junior, got 2nd place in 181 class and John Poe, also a Junior, got 4th in his weight class. The boys will compete at State later on this month.

Tigers finish off Great Season in Overtime Thriller

The Tigers, competing in area play this past week, fell short of their goal to make the State tournament.

Fresh off an opening round area victory over Tupelo, the Tigers would take on the Red Oak Eagles in the brand new 16.8 million dollar Kingston gym. The gym was spectacular and felt like the Tigers were already at the big show.

John Gregory Glass, 60, of Rattan, passed from this life on Wednesday, February 22, 2012 in Antlers. Funeral services were held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, February 24, 2012 at the Cloudy Baptist Church in Cloudy with Pastor Luther Roden officiating. Graveside services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 25, 2012 at Vaughn Cemetery in Vaughn, TX. Arrangements entrusted to Miller & Miller Funeral Home of Hugo.

Johnny Frazier

Johnny L. Frazier was born May 6, 1941 in Finley to Isaac Frazier & Catherine (Walker) Austin. He passed from this life February 21, 2012 in Talihina at the age of 70. Johnny was a lifelong resident of the Antlers area. He had served his country in the United States Army in the 1960s. He also served his community as an officer for the Antlers Police Department where he worked until his retirement. Johnny was a member of Old Cedar Methodist Church. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, and spending time with his family and friends.

Raymond Wren

Raymond Roy Wren was born February 10, 1921 in Nashoba to John William and Lucy Mae (Witt) Wren. He passed from this life February 21, 2012 in Oklahoma City at the age of 91. Raymond was born in the Blackfork Community, where he also attended school. He served his country in the United States Navy as a Ship's Cook, Third Class aboard the USS Breton during World War II. While stationed in Norman, he married Betty Louise Simonton and then later married Margorie Olive Greer. Raymond was a member of Civilian Conservation Corps No. 2824, Carpenter's Local Union No.

Pride of Antlers scores big at District

District Solo and Ensemble Contest was a great success this past weekend for several members of “The Pride of Antlers” Bearcat Band.

At District Solo and Ensemble, the students prepare pieces of music to perform either by themselves or on small groups for judges. The kids then receive a rating from Superior, a “1”, down to a “5” being the worst.

Free Clinic opens doors for first time

On Thursday, February 23, 2012, the Free Clinic in Antlers opened their doors for the first time. With a troop of volunteers, including doctors and pharmacists, the Free Clinic is a coming together of many local people to fill a gap in the community’s health care system.

First Insurance named “Agent of the Month”

Stroud National Agency (of Ruidoso, New Mexico), is pleased to present the “Agent of the Month” Award to First Insurance of Antlers, a partner of FirstBank. The Agency qualified by writing the most new farm insurance premiums during the month of January 2012.

They were in competition with over 700 independent agents who produce farm business for Stroud National. First insurance has been an agent for Stroud National since August of 2011 and has an excellent history of insuring the very best farm risks in their territory.
