Hospital receives $20,000 in donations

On Monday, December 12, 2011 the Pushmataha Hospital Auxiliary donated $10,000 to the Pushmatah Hospital to help cover the cost of new monitors for the ER. The Pushmataha Medical Foundation also donated $10,000 to the cause. Pictured from right to left are Mary Virden, Betty Cole, Steven Poe and Linda St. Clair.

Finley residents fight closing of Post Office

Residents of Finley have been going through the steps required to appeal the United States Postal Services closure of the Finley Post Office from taking place the last several months. Residents that go to the Finley Post Office to retrieve their mail, or do postal business, will be rerouted through the Clayton Post Office if the Finley Post is indeed closed.

Three Lady Cats named All Tournament Players

Over the weekend (Dec. 10) the Lady Cats participated in the Choctaw Nation Invitational Tournament in Talihina. The Lady Cats beat Central Salisa in the Semi-finals to take on Talihina in the final game of the tournament. The Lady Cats walked away from the Tournament with Runner up and had three of their players named to the All Tournament Team. They were aylor Tedder, Railey Gardner and Hailey Garman.

Over the weekend (Dec. 10th) the Bearcats Varsity Basketball team participated in the Choctaw Nation Invitational Basketball Tournament in Talihina. Bryce Martin, of the Bearcats, was named to the All Tournemant Team.

Jewel Hutson

Jewel Hutson was born November 28, 1925 in Checotah to Edward and Zona Elizabeth (Tow) Lucas. She passed from this life December 4, 2011 in Antlers at the age of 86. Jewel married John T. Hutson on October 14, 1945 in Bakersfield, CA. Together, they raised two children and remainded married until his passing. Jewel loved shopping and flowers, & she enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Jewel was preceded in death by her parents: Ed & Zona Lucas; husband: John T.

Tommy L. Tuck

Tommy Louis Tuck, of Moore, passed from this life on Friday, December 2, 2011 at the age of 66. He was born September 19, 1945 in Ringold to his parents Coy and Lucy Tuck. He was a retiree of General Motors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with family. Tommy was a loving and devoted father and grandfather, who will be deeply missed. He leaves cherished memories with his: Two daughters, Tracy Pitt and husband Darren, Nicole Woods and husband Ray. Adoring grandchildren: Andrea and Abigail Pitt; Justin, Joshua, Jared, Joseph, and Jessica Woods.

John Walker

John Walker was born November 26, 1935 in Antlers to Raymond Splawn and Jewel (Walker) Brewer. He passed from this life November 30, 2011 in Antlers at the age of 76. John married Charlene Turner on February 24, 1958 in Boswell. Later he joined the Oklahoma National Guard and then worked in the steel industry until his retirement. John enjoyed fishing, gardening, and riding around in the mountains. John also was a collector of many things but mostly: coins, guns and classic cars.

Rev. Lloyd David Earp

Rev. Lloyd David Earp, of Tuskahoma, passed from this life on Saturday, November 26, 2011 in McAlester at the age of 88. Family greeted friends at the Buffalo Valley Assembly of God on Wednesday, November 30, 2011 from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.  Memorial services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 1, 2011 at Buffalo Valley Assembly of God in Buffalo Valley with Jerry Earp and Dr. J. Martin Hayes, MD officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Assembly of God Camp Grounds, PO Box 13179, Oklahoma City, OK 73113.  

Pipeline protesters riding for awareness

A 1,700 mile bike ride to protest the TransCanada Keystone XL Pipeline has all but consumed Tom Weis since he set forth on his journey from the United States - Canadian boarder in Montana in mid-October of this year to follow the route of the purposed pipeline until he reaches Houston, TX towards the end of Christmas.
