Stanta caught flying over Antlers

December 26, 2013

Santa and this reindeer were caught flying over Antlers during the holidays. Santa was seen making his stops and double checking his list of the naughty and nice boys and girls in Pushmataha County. He told the staff of The Antlers American to wish all of our readers a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

December 11th

Parade and $1000 giveaway canceled

December 11, 2013

After the winter storm hit our area many events that were scheduled to take place did not happen as planned. Santa’s Workshop, that was supposed to take place Friday and Saturday, was completely canceled and at this time is not planned to be rescheduled. Other events that will not take place include: pictures with Santa, Santa’s Little Helpers Christmas pageant and Rudolph bingo.

The $1000 Shop Local drawing, Christmas parade and fireworks display will be rescheduled but at this time no date has been set.

Fallin Declares State of Emergency

December 11, 2013

Governor Mary Fallin has declared a State of Emergency for all 77 Oklahoma counties due to the winter storm impacting the state.

Because the weather included prolonged sub-freezing temperatures, dangerous road conditions and power outages, emergency management authorities recommended issuing this declaration before the full brunt of the storm arrived.

Governor Fallin warns Oklahomans to stay off the roads if at all possible and use extreme caution if you have to drive.

County hit hard by Cleon

In the aftermath of winter storm Cleon, residents and workers in Pushmataha County are working diligently to get our community as close to back to normal as possible.

Trees and power lines throughout the area were snapped under the weight of the ice that accumulated on them during the storm. Residents began loosing power as early as Thursday night and some still are without power at this time. Power crews are still working around the clock to get them restored.

December 5th

Bad weather already causing accidents

December 5, 2013

Winter weather has hit Pushmataha County quicker than expected. Reports have came in that vehicles have already started to lose control on the highways and one has already flipped, trapping the driver.

Do NOT get out on the roads if it is not 100% necessary! Stay home and stay safe. The weather is supposed to continue to get worse as the day gives way to night and more rain and sleet comes our way.

Parade rescheduled due to weather

December 5, 2013

The Christmas parade and firework display that was scheduled for Friday night, December 6, 2013, has been re-scheduled for Friday, December 13, 2013. The event was re-scheduled due to impending bad weather that is supposed to hit the area Thursday night and continue into Friday, making for undesirable conditions for the parade and fireworks.

Several events will take place around the county as residents gear up for the holiday season. They include parades, shop local campaigns, pageants and a fireworks display.

Law enforcement busy over weekend

November 29, 2013

A woman was arrested over the weekend with charges against her for being a fugitive from justice. Amanda Dean Smith, 33 of Haskell, was taken to jail in Pushmataha County on a warrant from Lamar County, Texas, for uttering a forged financial instrument and then fleeing from justice.

Smith had a bond of $9,999.00 set and will go in front of Judge Jana Wallace on December 11, 2013 for her preliminary hearing.

Veterans made part of Moyers Class of 2014

During U.S. wartime, the draft process limited many young men's ability to complete and graduate from high school. Many only completed lower to upper elementary grades.

In honor of their service, at the half-time of Moyers High School boy's basketball game, five veterans from varying branches of military service and varying military experiences, were presented with high school diplomas and became honorary members of the 2014 Moyers High School graduating class. The five veterans' military service obligations include World War II, Vietnam, and Korean.
