Treg Buchanan, a recent graduate of Antlers High School, has officially received a scholarship and has signed his letter of intent to play golf at Paris Junior College under the direction of Coach David Johnson.
Treg began playing golf in 2007 and has placed consistently for three years along with winning first place in the 2010 District Tournament. Treg has competed in three 3A State Golf Tournaments and placed 7th in State in May 2011.
The AHS Cheerleaders participated in the AmeriState Bank Customer Appreciatiin Day as part of their community service program. The cheerleaders did face painting and silly hair for any customer who wanted it. This is just one of the many community service activities the squad has planned for the year.
Two individuals where shot and killed following the robbery of the 1st Bank & Trust in Wright City, McCurtain County, at gun point on Thursday afternoon, June 16, 2011 just west of Rattan on HWY 3.
Dead are Justin Whisenhunt, a former Wright City resident whom the OSBI says was recently released from jail in Tarrant County, TX., after serving time for theft, and Jeremy Dysart of North Richland Hills, TX. The woman with them was Rachel Marie Morris Spear of Euless, TX., she was taken into custody, booked into the Pushmataha County Jail and charged with Murder in the First Degree.
In a sort of last minute surprise, the Lt. Governor of Oklahoma, Todd Lamb, stopped at the Depot in Antlers for a meeting on his way through to Valliant. A small group of residents were waiting for him when he and his bodyguard arrived at 9:30 a.m. to discuss economic development in rural Oklahoma.
On Friday, June 10, 2011 Pamela Massengale went to Pre-Paid Legal LLC., to pick up a donation they were making of a flag which needed to be retired.
The Northern Star District Cub Scouts will soon be participating in their Cub Scout Day Camp (the second weekend in July) and part of the festivities will be the yearly ceremony to put to rest all flags that needed to be retired. This will take place on July 8, 2011 at dusk at the Historic Ft. Towson Fort and is open to the public.
Keeping stuff going for the Mentoring Program this summer is a big deal with kids being out of school and the Little Dixie Community Action Agencyâ€™s Passport to the Future Mentoring Program has big plans.
The group kicked off June with Swimming at the Antlers Pool on June 8th and the 22nd.Â They all met up at the Little People Park at 12 noon for pizza, then walk over to the swimming pool.Â
On June 15th they went fishing at a private pond at the Hadley home in Grant,Â leaving Antlers office at 10:00 A.M.Â
The robbery of a bank in Wright City, OK, McCurtain County, ended badly on Thursday afternoon, June 16, 2011 just outside of Rattan.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol was on the scene of the shooting incident along State Highway 3.
OHP Troopers set up a roadblock near the location, west of Rattan. A short time after the initial alert, authorities witnessed the suspect vehicle and attempted to effect a traffic stop. Suspect vehicle
fled from Trooper(s), failed to stop for the roadblock and shots were fired.
I suspected that when summer arrived that it would arrive all of a sudden and with a vengeance. Sure enough it has been almost August like i the weather department here lately.
I recommend playing golf in the morning if a person can. The mornings have been nice. Of course that is when we do most of the course work but I figure we could watch out for each other.
