A Pushmataha County man is facing felony charges of possession of methamphetamine after a drug dog alerted to the presence of drugs during a traffic stop last week.
According to information filed in district court, Deputy Shawn Culver, Pushmataha County Sheriffâ€™s Department, was requested to assist Deputy James Marzek north of the Nashoba turnoff on Highway 271 at approx. 10 p.m. Tuesday.
National average gas prices increased 30.8 cents or 8.75 percent a gallon in August. This was the largest monthly price increase since April 2011 and the second highest increase for the month of August in AAAâ€™s records, which date to 2000.
â€śIt has been a really tough summer for drivers nationwide with high gas prices breaking daily records,â€ť said Chuck Mai, AAA Oklahoma spokesman. â€śEvery week there seems to be something new driving up gas prices, whether it is a major refinery fire, a pipeline closure or a Gulf Coast hurricane.â€ťÂ
The score did not match the heart that these 19 young men played with on Friday night, but in the end the Bearcats were no match for the Valliant Bulldogs. Valliant showed skill and determination but the Bearcats never gave up as they struggled against the Bulldogs defense. Valliant took home the â€śWâ€ť with a final score of 59 - 13.
The Bearcats have a true "brothers in arms" compassion for each other this year and they believe in each other. They never quit, never gave up. This group of young men played as a team.
The Rattan Rams have had a busy schedule thus far into the 2012 Fall Baseball season. The Rams were recently named the 2012 Rattan Fall Classic Tournament Champions! The Ramsâ€™ next home game will be played against the Fort Towson Tigers on September 7, 2012 at 12:00 p.m. On September 10th they will take on Silo in another home game that starts at 4:30 p.m. Way to go Rams! The Rattan Lady Rams have already been very busy this year. They have kicked off the 2012 Fall Fast Pitch Softball season by being named MC6 Fast Pitch Softball Champions and the Rock Creek Tournament Champions. Billy Wayne Johnson was born May 18, 1956 in Antlers to William Henry and Gertie Mae (Sanders) Johnson. He passed from this life August 26, 2012 in Antlers at the age of 56. Billy married Deborah Tankersley on September 5th, 1988 in Antlers. Billy enjoyed hunting & fishing, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family. Billy was preceded in death by his parents: William Henry & Gertie Mae Johnson; sister: Sharlene Henley; brothers: Frank Johnson, Paul Wayne Johnson, Bobby Ray Johnson; and a nephew: Lee Edward Johnson.
Flora Austeen Gilliam the daughter of Dick and Flora (Miller) Gilliam, was born on November 20, 1921 in Pittsburgh, TX. She passed from this life August 24, 2012 in Fort Worth, TX at the age of 90. Austeen was the fifth child of Dick and Flora, with a sister and brother born after her. She used her middle name so as not to be confused with her mother. When most of her brothers were in the military service during World War II, Austeen also decided to serve her country. She joined the Womenâ€™s Army Corps.
On Saturday, August 25, members of the Pushmataha County Sportsman Club competed in a team bass tournament on Sardis Lake. Contestants fished under cloudy skies with light rain and moderate temperatures for most of the day, which was much more enjoyable than the one hundred plus degree temperatures of the last several bass tournaments.
On Friday, August 24, 2012 the Antlers Bearcats faced off in a home scrimmage against the Haileyville Warriors. The Bearcats did a great job maintaining control of the game and scored 2 touchdowns against Haileyville. The Bearcats defense shutout the Warriors and held them to a scoreless game. The Bearcats were fired up and it was obvious to the fans that they were having a blast playing the game they all love. The Bearcats will play in their season opener Friday, August 31, 2012 in a home game against the Valliant Bulldogs.
Labor day weekend is upon us and for residents of Pushmataha County we all know what that means, other then a day off work on Monday; it means The Annual Choctaw Nation Labor Day Festival and Pow Wow kicked-off on Thursday, August 30,2012, with the Choctaw Nation Princess Pageant in the amphitheater at 7:00 p.m. The Choctaw Village will also be filled with cultural activities.
