Lady Rams move forward to Area

March 1, 2012

This past weekend, February 17th & 18th, the Rattan Lady Rams participated in the 2A Regional Basketball Tournament, which took place in Ada. They came away with a consolation win and will move on to compete in the Area Tournament on Thursday, March 1, 2012.

The Tournament will take place in Wilburton at the High School. The Lady Rams will take the court at 1:30 p.m. against Talihina in what is sure to be an outstanding game.

Good Luck Lady Rams!!! Make sure you come one out and support you Rattan Rams and Lady Rams!!!!

Rams advance to Area

Bearcats & Lady Cats season ended in Regional play

Last weekend our teams, coaches and fans traveled first to Muldrow, then Poteau for our 2011-2012 Regional play off games. Our Bearcats went into Regionals with one play off loss against them so one more loss would end their season.

In their first game the Bearcats took on the Salina Wildcats, who came into this game with a record of 8-12. Our leading scorer's for this game were Jr. Bryce Martin with 11 points 7 rebounds and shot 75% from the free-throw line, Jr. Jakub "Jimmy" Mician with 10 points and 5 rebounds, and Jr. Harlan House with 6 points.

Tigers finish off season in overtime

The Tigers, competing in area play this past week, fell short of their goal to make the State tournament.

Fresh off an opening round area victory over Tupelo, the Tigers would take on the Red Oak Eagles in the brand new 16.8 million dollar Kingston gym. The gym was spectacular and felt like the Tigers were already at the big show.

Addictive Smokeless Tobacco Products Targeted During Through With Chew Week

Despite tobacco companies’ efforts to portray smokeless tobacco products as a “safe” alternative to smoking cigarettes, a recent study conducted by cardiologists showed “hard evidence that chewing tobacco harms the heart.” Through With Chew Week, Feb. 19 – 25, calls attention to smokeless tobacco use, highlighting the fact that there are no “safe” tobacco products.

Southeastern Releases Honor Rool

Students from Antlers that were named to the Southeastern College’s President’s 2011 Fall honor roll. To qualify a student must complete a minimum of 12 semester hours of college-level courses with a 4.0 GPA. The students from Antlers were: Colton J. Ammerer, Kayle E. Bryant, Lacey J. Morgan and Neida K. Owens. A student from Clayton was also named to the President’s honor roll, Severt A. Dahl.

ESA helps fund E-books at Library

On Thursday, February 17, 2012, the Antlers Chapter of ESA donated $250 to the Antlers Public Library to help fund the E-Book service of the Oklahoma Virtual Library Consortium, which now has 15 member libraries from around the state. The Antlers Public Library has now raised the $1,500 annual fee to join this service.

S.P.I.T. named Partner of the Year

Project SPIT receives the “Smart Start Partner of the Year” Award from Tri-County Smart Start Director, Dennis Willeford, for their outstanding achievements in promoting healthy learning for young children in Choctaw, McCurtain and Pushmataha Counties.

Tigers Beat Red Oak in Regional Opener

The Moyers Tigers took on the 10th ranked Red Oak Eagles this past week in the first round of the Regional competition. This would prove to be a thrilling, nail biting, heart pounding game that came down to the wire.

Junior Brandon Slocum got the opening tip for the Tigers. Sr. Jake Mattingly scored the first basket for the Tigers. The Tigers jumped out to an early lead in an aggressive, physical battle. At the end of one the score was 12-2.
