Of the nearly 44 million acres that make up Oklahoma, more than 12.6 million are forested.
These forested areas are beneficial to the state. Unfortunately, the extremely invasive eastern redcedars are spreading like wildfire into areas where they have no business, like rangelands and pastures. It was estimated in 1950 that redcedars and other junipers covered approximately 1.5 million acres of the state. By 1983, 3.5 million acres were taken.
AAA is warning motorists that this is the time of the year more deer will be on Oklahoma’s roadways and to be on the lookout for them, especially at dusk and dawn.
“We’re entering deer mating season and the time when deer are searching for food to build up fat reserves for the winter,” said Chuck Mai, spokesman for AAA Oklahoma. “Plus, deer populations are high in Oklahoma right now – increasing the risk of car-deer collisions. Already this fall, motorists have tragically died in crashes with deer in the state.”

Tea Party by Butch Morris
I had a good time at the Deer Festival this past weekend. I hope you made it to the fair grounds and found something that interested you.
I did duty at the Tea Party tent which was beside the Republican Party tent. We kinda helped each other. We were there stumping for the Republican candidates in the up coming elections. The Tea Party is behind these candidates because we believe that they represent conservative ideals and are prepared to stand up for these principals.

40,000 people die each year in car accidents. The leading cause of death for people under the age of 35 is failure to wear safety belts. Safety belts can prevent death in about half of these accidents.
Seat belts are required for the operator and front passengers per Title 47 12-417. Every operator and front seat passenger of a passenger car operated in this state shall wear a properly adjusted safety seat belt system, required to be installed in the motor vehicle when manufactured pursuant to 49 C.F.R. 571.208.

Push for a Better America held it’s monthly meeting last Friday evening and we had a pretty good turnout. We also had some pretty good speakers.
The Republican party vice chair for Southeastern Oklahoma, Pam Pollard, addressed us on issues and efforts to elect conservative candidates.
John Fritz spoke for Markwayne Mullin, conservative candidate for District 2 congressional district. Markwayne couldn’t make it down to see us in person this time die to prior campaign commitments. However, he has been here four times in the past year.

Project Patron started as a dream plan in 2005: an expansion for the Antlers Public Library highlighting Antlers as the Deer Capital of the World and Pushmataha County’s Choctaw heritage. The plan conjured pictures of a Barnes and Noble bookstore decorated like a Bass Pro Shop. Seven years, 3 major grants, and many fundraisers later, the construction of the 1,620 square feet expansion was complete. Time for the renovation and redesign phase to begin.
