Claud Wayne Council was born November 11, 1932 in Portales, NM to Claud Francis and Rosa Retha (Jordan) Council. He passed from this life July 27, 2011 at his home surrounded by his loving family at the age of 78. Claud served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War on USS Hancock, USS Brown, USS Louster, & USS Hornet. On October 1, 1956, he received commendation for his performance on the USS Hornet. Claud married Patricia Smith on March 31, 1958 in Hugo. He lived most of his life in this area and in Odessa, TX. He enjoyed planting in his garden, watching westerns, drinking coffee, fishing, and, above all else, he loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Claud was preceded in death by his parents: Claud & Rosa Council; one beloved son: Buster Council; and two brothers: Doyle Council and David Council. He is survived by his wife: Pat of the home; children: Sheila Cessna & husband Sam of Antlers, Shelley Traywick & husband Eddie of Odessa, TX., and their adopted granddaughter, Rosa Council Billy & husband Steven of Finley; grandchildren: Bryan Council, Micheal Cessna, Brittany Cessna, Brandon Cessna, Cory Cessna all of Antlers; great grandchildren: Titus, Gabby, and Christian Billy of Finley, Blake Rodgers of Antlers, Kaydon Council of Lubbock, TX and Braylyn Scessna of Ada; a brother: Murrey Kay Council; numerous nieces and nephews; as well as many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 30, 2011 at the Mills & Coffey Chapel in Antlers with Pastor Larry Crawford officiating. Musical selections included: "Cowboys Like Us," "Go Rest High on That Mountain," â€śAmazing Graceâ€ť and â€śDaddyâ€™s Hands.â€ť Pallbearers included: Sam Cessna. Honorary pallbearers were: Bryan Council, Michael Cessna, Brandon Cessna, Cory Cessna and Titus Billy. Interment followed at the Antlers City Cemetery.
