Ladycats fight to the finish

Lady Cats traveled to Wilburton last Friday night for the season opener. The Lady Cats came out with a bang and thanks to 3 for 3 on three point shots by Senior Chelsi Thomas, at the end of the first quarter, the score was tied at 14-14. Both teams came to play and at the half, the Lady Diggers were up 26-23.

After the half the Lady Cats were more determined than ever, but so were the Lady Diggers, and at the end of the 3rd they had a lead of 39-33, but the Lady Cats were more determined than ever, they came back with a vengeance, holding Wilbuton at bay and allowing them not to score a single point in the 4th period. Kendie Bryant sunk a 3 in the final moments of the game to move the Lady Cats ahead by two.

Wilburton answered with a break down the floor, but Lady Cat Meagan Wilbourn swatted the ball out of shot contention. Headed down the floor again the ball was overturned and into Wilburton's possession, only to be stolen by Lady Cat Senior Megan Brame, once again possession by Lady Cats.

Wilburton, frustrated by the Lady Cat offense began to foul, and finally a successful round at the Freethrow line by Cheyanne Simpson closed it out with Lady Cats defeating the Lady Diggers in a nail biting finish 42-38!

Senior Chelsi Thomas led scoring with 11 points, and 5 rebounds. Senior Megan Brame led the team with assists having 6 , 7 points and 6 rebounds. Junior Cheyanne Simpson led the team in steals with 5, also contributing 6 points, and 5 rebounds. After an amazing come back from a recent injury, Junior Kendie Bryant had 8 points, 3 assists and 1 rebound. Junior Meagan Wilbourn led the team in rebounds with 8, and contributed 8 points and 2 assists to boot.

Coming off the bench, Junior Emma Branton had a phenomenal 7 rebounds and added 2 points to the board. Junior Macy Smith had a crucial rebound. To sum it up collectively, the Lady Cats had 42 points and an impressive 13 assists and 17 steals.

This Tuesday the Lady Cats take on the Boswell Scorpions at home and travel to Talihina for the Talihina Festival this Thursday, Friday & Saturday .
