Laura Ellen Davis

Laura Ellen Davis was born November 1, 1928 near Bethel in one of the early moving towns in Eastern OK, to Calvert M. and Gertie E. (Mouser) Smith. She passed from this life on Friday, March 18, 2011 in Hugo at the age of 82. Laura married Grobin Davis on May 10, 1947, in Fort Smith, AR. They were residents of Oklahoma for the past thirty years. Laura worked as a post office clerk in Wright City and different offices for 20 years; she retired as postmistress of the Rattan Post Office after 3 years. Laura was a member of the First Baptist Church and one of her favorite past times was working crossword puzzles. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Calvert Smith; and one sister, Luella Thompson. Laura is survived by her husband, Grobin Davis of the home; two sons, Grobin D.W. Davis and wife Vickie of Roxton, TX, Eddy Ray Davis and wife Linda of Chandler, AZ; one daughter, Martha Ellen Davis of Hugo; one brother, Carl Smith and wife Rhonda of Clever, MO; three sisters, Lovell Hale of Helena, MT, Ladine Keno of Idabel, Lila Geller and husband Clint of Valliant; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. The family received friends on Monday, March 21, 2011 from 6:00-7:00 p.m. in the Prater-Lampton-Mills & Coffey Chapel in Hugo. Graveside services were held on Tuesday, March 22, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Holly Creek Cemetery with Rev. Bob Childers officiating.
