Sardis Lake Makes National News

Sardis Lake, Clayton, OK recently made National Headlines.

Over the past year we have ran many articles about the water rights issues of Sardis Lake and how the Choctaw and Chickasaw Nations have joined forces with residents in Southeastern Oklahoma to help fight to protect the water and keep it where it belongs, in Southeastern Oklahoma.

Now the Sardis Lake water rights issue was officially went national as the “New York Times” has begun a series, “Precious Waters,” about struggles over dwindling water supplies across the United States. The first article in this series was published on April 11, 2011 and was written by Felicity Barringer. This article highlighted Oklahoma City trying to buy up pretty much all of the water rights to the lake, and talked about what the Tribes and residents of Southeastern Oklahoma are doing to fight for their lake.
