The weather is heating up, kids are out of school and running amuck, the street sweeper has been out and about in Antlers. That can only mean one thing. It is time for the 2011 Pushmataha County Homecoming Celebration! The community has been busy and buzzing with anticipation as last minute projects get completed. This yearâ€™s theme is â€śPushmataha County: Past ~ Present ~ Future.â€ť
Some of the festivities are going to start taking place today. Including the first day of operations for the Summertime Amusement Carnival that is at the fair grounds. The carnival will be in town until Saturday as always, so make sure to stop on out and take a spin on one of t he rides or try your hand at winning a stuffed animal.
A new event taking place this year will be the Pushmataha County Quilt Show at the Church of Christ Annex. $1 donation will get you in the door and also register you for a chance to win a quilt during the raffle Saturday afternoon.
Nothing much has changed from last years schedule excluding a few additions. But there is one major location change that has residents excited about this yearâ€™s street dance. The dance will one again take place on High Street.
On Friday morning there will be the Annual Pancake Breakfast at the Methodist Church in Antlers. The Masons, Methodist Church men and Boy Scout Troop 384 will be serving up the goodies from 6:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. and it will only cost you $5 per person.
If you are not sure where to register, or have family coming in who need to know, it is once again at the Old Frisco Depot in Antlers. Other events taking place on Friday include (all at 6:00 p.m. ) will be the Rattan Bean Supper in Rattan, the Antlers Reception in Antlers and the Moyers Reception in Moyers.
Saturday morning is packed full of fun family events. Starting things off at 6:30 a.m. will be the Tyson Jerry Benefit 5K Run/Walk at the Antlers High School. Registration starts bright and early at 6:30 a.m. and then the race will take place at 7:00 p.m. Make sure you take part in this amazing event because all the money raised will go to Tyson Jerry.
After the 5K there will be a Fun to Run event, this will also be at the Antlers High School. This is for all children ages 12 and under. Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. with the race starting at 8:30 a.m.
The Homecoming Parade will be making its way down High Street and then turning onto Main Street. Make sure to bring your bags so you can collect a lot of candy! Right after the conclusion of the parade make sure to head on down to Push Fitnessâ€™s parking lot and watch their Push Fitness Challenge, complete with a tire flipping competition and a truck pull.
At 6:00 p.m. in the FirstBank Park on Main Street there will be a Gospel Singing and Fish Fry. Some of the groups performing will be Larry Crawford, 6:4 HIM, The Great Commission. Buster Swoopes, Timmy & Katie Martin and The Believers.
Then it is on to the Street Dance, remember it isnâ€™t at the Depot this year it is back on High Street! At 7:30 p.m. the opening act will take the stage and get everyone good and warmed up because at right around 8:00 The Mike Ryan Band is going to take over and rock the night away!
While you are celebrating what is sure to be an amazing homecoming weekend make sure that you follow some simple rules, watch out for children who might run out in front of your vehicle, throw your trash in a trash can or designated area, NEVER drink and drive, be safe and have a ball!
