Superintendent's Corner

August 3, 2011

By Cary Ammons
Superintendent of Antlers Public Schools

Welcome back students! School is just around the corner. Antlers Public Schools will start classes on Monday, August 22, 2011 at 8:00 a.m.

When the month of August hits the first thing that many people think about is that it is almost time to go back to school. This is the time to start redefining routines in your child’s life. Physicals must be completed, immunizations checked and brought up to date, bed times reestablished and I would suggest some light reading to get your children back in the groove before the first day of class.

This year there will also be new bus routes as far as drop off and pickups are concerned, mainly due to the construction of the new building. And as always, we urge motorists to watch for students coming and going!

On Monday, August 22, the high school students need to report to the auditorium first thing in the morning at 8:00 a.m. We are encouraging all students to be on time throughout the year.

We also want to remind and inform students, and their parents or legal guardians, that we have an open door policy. If you or your student has a question, concern or comment please feel free to share these with your teachers or principal.

The Pride of Antlers Band is already in the process of getting ready for the new school year as are the coaches and student athletes. The coaches and I have been discussing the importance of keeping all of our students and athletes hydrated and in good health with the excessive heat. We suggest that if you have a student athlete to start trying to get them acclimated to the heat.

We are also encouraging every parent or legal guardian to fill out the breakfast/lunch applications for free and reduced price lunches, whether you believe you will qualify or not.

We are going to have a great year! We will continue the tradition of focusing on the education and development of our youth through high expectations for our students as well as for ourselves. See you soon!
