Virden Retires as Antlers Schools Superintendent

Antlers Public School Systems Superintendent, Mark Virden, has officially announced his retirement. His last official day will be on June 30, 2011.

Mr. Virden has been a part of the Antlers School System for the past 31 years, his entire teaching career. The first 19 years were spend as the high school Science Teacher. Mr. Virden then was the High School Principle for 6 years, and finished off his career as the Superintendent of Schools for the last 6 years.

Mr. Virden said that it has been a very good 31 years and that he is going to miss the students and faculty very much.

Virden and his wife, Mary, plan on staying in the community and giving more time back to the community in volunteer work. The Virdens also plan on giving more time to their church, the First Baptist Church of Antlers, and do more through them.

Everyone who knew or met Mr. Virden knew he was a caring man who truly loved his job. He cared about the well being of the students, their education and their growth and has done so much over the years to better the Antlers Public School System. Mr. Virden will be truly missed as part of the Antlers School.
