L.J. “Snooks” Davis was born June 24, 1914 in Achille to John and Texanna (Peoples) Davis. He passed from this life May 28, 2011 in Antlers at the age of 96. Leonard married Christine McKintubee 74 years ago on September 26, 1936 in Holdenville. They lived in California and Texas then in 1951 they moved to Miller and lived there for 46 years. Snooks was a blade operator for 20 years. He took a lot of pride in his work and enjoyed doing it. Leonard was 69 when he finally retired. He enjoyed spending his free time by gardening, playing dominoes with friends and neighbors and most especially having coffee with all the boys. He was a member of the Westside Baptist Church, a steady worker in the church as long as he was healthy and able. Snooks was preceded in death by his parents: John & Texanna Davis; one son: Charles; four sisters; and four brothers. He is survived by his wonderful wife: Christine of the home; one daughter: Wilma Lowery & husband Cody of Antlers; four grandchildren: Patti Bristow of McKinney, TX., Kevin Labor of Frisco, TX., Cody Shanne Lowery of Rockwall, TX., Sean Meyer of Houston, TX.; nine great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; numerous nieces and nephews; as well as many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at the Mills & Coffey Chapel in Antlers with Pastor Larry Crawford and Bob Childers officiating. Musical selections included: “Long Black Train,” “I’ll Fly Away” and “How Great Thou Art.” Pallbearers included: Bruce Akard, Terry Miller, Jimmy Pound, Eddie Napier, Billy Coggins and Gerald Harper. Honorary Pallbearers were: Warren Whiteside, James Pound, Junior Westbrook, Bryon Hedgecock, Henery Watson, Wayland McMahan and Danny Mitchell.
