Lt. Col. (Retired) Norman Earl Lawless was born January 5, 1922 in Sobol to Charles Carroll and Emma Jane (Morphew) Lawless. He passed from this life July 22, 2011 in Antlers at the age of 89. Norman served his country during World War II, the Korean Conflict, and the Vietnam War. He flew a B-29 as a bombadier and a B-52 as a radar navigator. Norman retired from the United States Air Force as a Lieutenant Colonel. He married Coletta Jo Floyd May 23, 1951 in Denison, TX., and together they raised two children. Norman was a member of the VFW, American Legion, and Military Officers Association. He loved music and was an avid guitar, banjo and piano player. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Norman was preceded in death by his parents: Charles & Emma Lawless; brothers: Jason Lawless, Oscar Lawless, Grady Lawless, and Clifford Lawless; sisters: Edna Still, Ethel Allen, Esther McClure, and Edith Womack. He is survived by his wife: Coletta of the home; children: Diana Lawless Taylor & husband Bill of Harleton, TX., Larry Craig Lawless & wife Peggy of Stephenville, TX.; grandchildren: William “Chet” Taylor of Harleton, TX., Chase Taylor & wife Melissa, 2nd Lt. Aaron Lawless, Camden Lawless, Michael Lawless, Morgan Lawless, and Kathryn Lawless all of Stephenville, TX.; numerous nieces and nephews; as well as many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 25, 2011 at the Mills & Coffey Chapel in Antlers with Reverend Randy Schreurs officiating. Musical selections included “Wildwood Flower,” “Under the Doubled Eagle,” “It Is No Secret” and “Old Rugged Cross.” Pallbearers included: Bruce Lawless, Monty Ray Lawless, Lt. Aaron Lawless, Michael Lawless, Morgan Lawless and Lt. Spencer Cox. Interment followed at the Sobal Cemetery in Sobol. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to Spencerville Community Church or 1st Presbyterian Church of Antlers, Oklahoma.
