On July 30, members of the Pushmataha County Sportsman Club competed in a bass tournament on Hugo Lake. Once again, temperatures reached above one hundred degrees. The extended heat wave we have been experiencing has caused the surface temperature of the lake water to reach the mid-nineties. This excessive warm water has apparently caused the bass to become sluggish and slowed the bite down considerably.
Winning the tournament was Tony Derby. Tony had stringer weight of 9.85 pounds. Judd Thomas finished in second place with a stringer weight of 9.59 pounds. Terry Thurman had the third place stringer with a weight of 9.30 pounds. The big bass of the tournament was caught by Billy Latham. His bass weighed 4.14 pounds.
The club’s next tournament will be on August 13. It will be held on Sardis Lake. Fishing times for the tournament will be set at the club’s next meeting, which will be held on Thursday, August 11. Prizes will be awarded for the July tournaments at that time as well. The club meets at 7:30 p.m. at the Wildlife Heritage Center and Museum.View more articles in:
