On Friday night, August 26, 2011 the lights were once again shinning bright at the Antlers Bearcat Stadium as they took on the Haileyville Warriors in a scrimmage game.
For the first portion of the scrimmage the teams alternated possession of the ball in 5/5 sets. Meaning that a teams offense would have possession of the ball for 5 plays and then would move to defense for 5 plays. The Bearcats showed aggression, determination and passion as they went head to head against the Warriors, not to mention some new tricks.
Under their new Head Coach, Henry Wright, the boys have begun to show a more uniform playing style, timed blocking patterns and all appear to be on the same page as far as the plays they are running. Although completing offensive passing plays shows to be something they are still struggling with slightly, the boys have shown improvements from last year.
During the second part of the scrimmage the teams played full quarters and simulated an actual game. This is where the boys showed that they had came to play but were still adjusting to the new coaching style and plays. With a little more focus and practice, they will have their new systems under control and be ready for their season opener.
The Bearcats open their season with an away game on Thursday, September 1st against the Valliant Bulldogs. This face off will be one of the toughest games on the Bearcats schedule, along with Davis and Talihina.View more articles in:
