On Friday, October 14, 2011 the New District #1 County Barn was officially open and celebrated with an Open House which lasted from 11:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. The new barn is 4,800 square feet located at 400 S.W. 8th Street in Antlers.
During the open house more than 150 individuals came by to see the new facility. The barn consists of a shop area and offices and increased and updated technology. The hopes for the new barn was to create a modernized facility for employees to work and maintain equipment, maintain a more precise inventory and have all of the needed equipment in one building instead of two as to save the workers and county both time and money.
At the open house two county workers, Willard Wilkerson and Russell Bailey, also celebrated their retirement and were presented with plaques to commemorate their time and the counties gratitude. Both men had been working for the county for around 8 years.
This new facility was made possible by a REAP (Rural Energy for America Program) Grant and KEDDO (Kiamichi Economic Development District of Oklahoma). Michael A. Brittingham, County Commissioner of District #1, expressed his deepest gratitude to all who made this possible with a special thank you to Senator Ellis and Representative R.C. Pruett who helped them obtain the grant for the county, and Steve Clemente, Project Director at KEDDO and Danny Baldwin, Executive Director at KEDDO.
