Dr. Mathew Hookom, of Atoka, Okla., offered free dental care to more than 80 patients in Atoka and surrounding communities on August 2, 2013. He provided cleanings, composite fillings, extractions and other dental services. Hookom is one of many Oklahoma Heroes of Dentistry recognized for his charitable work in his community.
Dr. Hookom doesn’t limit his volunteer efforts to just one day. His team gives free dental exams for all of the Atoka county schools, grades K-5 in February, which is National Children’s Oral Health Month. Dr. Hookom also offers extreme makeovers and attends the Oklahoma Mission of Mercy every year, and the first Friday of every month he partners with the Atoka free clinic to offer dental care to the patients.
“As a team we all have the heart to serve and give,” said Hookom. “This community has given so much to us, and we love the opportunity to give back. When God puts it in our heart to give, we try to do so.”
Hookom practices dentistry at Custom Dental in Atoka, Okla. and his wife, Emily, is his hygienist. He graduated from The University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry and is an active member of the Oklahoma Dental Association.
